The Ford 48-7005 transmission is a classic automotive component that was originally designed for use in Ford vehicles manufactured between 1935 and 1936. This transmission is a key part of the powertrain system, responsible for transferring power from the engine to the driveshaft and ultimately to the wheels.
The Ford 48-7005 is a three-speed manual transmission, meaning it has three forward gears. It features a synchronized first gear, which allows for smooth and easy shifting between first and neutral. This transmission also includes a reverse gear, enabling the vehicle to move in reverse.
The transmission housing is made of cast iron, a durable material that provides strength and stability. The gears are made of high-quality steel and are precision machined to ensure accurate fitment and smooth operation. The synchronizers are made of brass, providing superior wear resistance and durability.
The transmission also includes a torque converter, which allows for smooth and automatic shifting between gears when the vehicle is in drive. The torque converter is made of aluminum and features ribbed cooling fins that help to dissipate heat and keep the transmission running cool.
The Ford 48-7005 transmission is designed to be easy to install, with all necessary hardware included in the package. It is also compatible with a wide range of Ford vehicles from the era, making it a versatile and valuable addition to any restoration project or collection.
In terms of dimensions, the transmission measures approximately 23 inches long, 10 inches wide, and 12 inches tall, making it a standard size for Ford vehicles of the time. It weighs approximately 150 pounds, making it a substantial but manageable component to handle during installation.
Overall, the Ford 48-7005 transmission is a high-quality, reliable, and authentic component that is perfect for anyone looking to restore a classic Ford vehicle or simply add to their collection. Its durable construction, smooth operation, and easy installation make it a valuable and essential addition to any Ford enthusiast's toolkit.
Buying a used Ford 48-7005 transmission for a 1935 model year vehicle can be a viable option for those seeking to restore or maintain their classic Ford. However, like any used part, there are pros and cons to consider before making a purchase.
Pros:1. Authenticity: A used original transmission can add to the authenticity and value of a classic vehicle.
2. Cost-effective: Buying a used transmission is generally less expensive than buying a new one.
3. Availability: Used transmissions are often easier to find than new ones, especially for older models.
Cons:1. Unknown condition: The condition of a used transmission is unknown, and it may require repairs or rebuilding before it can be installed.
2. Compatibility: There is a risk that the used transmission may not be compatible with the specific year or model of the vehicle.
3. Reliability: The reliability of a used transmission cannot be guaranteed, and it may fail prematurely.
Conclusion:Buying a used Ford 48-7005 transmission for a 1935 Ford vehicle can be a cost-effective and authentic option, but it comes with risks. The unknown condition, compatibility, and reliability of the transmission are significant concerns that must be addressed. Before making a purchase, it is essential to inspect the transmission thoroughly, obtain a detailed description of its condition and history, and consider having it tested or rebuilt if necessary.
Recommendation:If possible, it is recommended to purchase a used transmission from a reputable seller or salvage yard with a good reputation. Inspecting the transmission in person and asking for a detailed history can help mitigate the risks associated with buying a used transmission. Alternatively, considering a rebuilt or new transmission may provide greater peace of mind and reliability. Ultimately, the decision to buy a used Ford 48-7005 transmission should be based on a careful evaluation of the specific circumstances, including the availability, cost, and risk tolerance of the buyer.
This is correct for '36 Ford passenger cars and 1/2 ton pickups w/ Flathead V8 engine. Looks to be a good core for rebuild-see photos. This is an original 1936 Ford 3 speed Transmission Assembly. Will also fit 1935 passenger cars and 1/2 ton pickup but the top is different.
Gears look good but do have some wear in areas-see photos. Pretty good looking condition, didn't see any cracks, moves good, but has some normal wear and lite pitting in areas-see photos. Will need to modify the floor pan/cover for this top fit through properly.
